About Me

My name is Alexandra Balahur and I have recently obtained my PhD title in Computer Science from the University of Alicante, with the thesis entitled "Methods and Resources for Sentiment Analysis in Multilingual Documents of Different Text Types". My supervisors were Prof. Andrés Montoyo and Dr. Ralf Steinberger.I did my PhD studies within the program "Applications of Computer Science to Natural Language Processing", at the Department of Software and Computing Systems, University of Alicante, Spain. During my PhD, I was a trainee for six months at the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy and a trainee for three months at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany.

I am a Computer Science graduate from the "A.I.Cuza" University, in Iasi, Romania (2007). My undergraduate thesis was on Recognizing Textual Entailment, under the supervision of Prof. Dan Cristea, in collaboration with Prof. Adrian Iftene.

I am an outgoing person, very passionate about my work and about what it combines: computers and languages, but also other sciences, like psychology, cognitive science, philosophy or sociology. I speak 6 languages - Romanian, English, Spanish, German, French and Italian. I like travelling and meeting people, discovering new cultures and new ways of life. I feel very stimulated by multicultural environments and I think these, above all, help us keep an open mind, be flexible, tolerant  and  think outside the box.  I've lived in 4 different countries until now, and I hope to be able to experience living in other countries in Europe or other continents.

In my free time, I enjoy reading and watching movies or series, traveling, meeting friends, taking photographs and dancing.
